Most people admire items with embroidery on them, be it a T-shirt, a handbag, a jacket, they all look that little bit more special because of the embroidery.

Think also how much you have to pay for an item with this embroidery.

Before machines were developed to do embroidery it all had to be done by hand. This represented hours and hours of patience and industry by someone, there is no wonder that a hand embroidered object represents a lot of work and has to cost so much.

Now with all the modern technology there are so many wonderful, Husqvarna among them, whose Husqvarna embroidery machine gives you automatically produced embroidery.

Computerized machines are totally miraculous. They give you the option of using many memory cards, plus you are able to download countless designs from the Internet. A memory stick is very good for this process.

There really is no limit to the designs you can put together. You are not limited to the design as it first appears. Many machines allow you to edit and change aspects of the design to make it even more unique.

The Husqvarna Viking Designer SE is such an advanced machine that I really don’t think it would be suitable for beginners it really is aimed at professionals or at the very least people who are familiar and well experienced with computerized embroidery machines.

Even the lighting which shines down on your work area can be changed according to the color of the fabric you are working on.

The machine can actually help you with suggestions as to appropriate stitches and tips for working with the particular fabric you have chosen. You simply enter the details of your chosen fabric and the machine will do the rest, work out the best speeds, stitch selection, tension, in fact everything.

This machine will even give you the ability to produce 3D designs, I just cannot believe how versatile these new machines are.

The Husqvarna Rose embroidery machine is also a sewing machine, it is one of those combination designs.

Although this machine could be seen as expensive it will be money well spent because it is very durable. It isn’t given to breaking down at the drop of a hat even though you can make it a real workhorse.

The one thing I would put here is that it is not economical to use inferior thread because you will find that it breaks. Use good quality thread and you will not have any problems. I think this would apply to any make of machine, they all work better with quality thread.

The memory cards with designs can be a bit expensive but they have quite a lot on one card. The company do not put any restrictions on the sale of goods you make using their design. You are free to create unique items and sell them for profit – good news indeed.

If you purchase your machine from a store it might be a good idea to take advantage if they offer free lessons. You may find it easier to learn how to operate the Husqvarna Rose embroidery machine.

Other Husqvarna models have more in-built stitch choices but the whole point of the computerization is that you can import all the designs and lettering that you could ever want. They don’t need to be built in. You download them from the Internet or Husqvarna’s own site when you need them.

Changing the different presser feet is very easy, just slip out the one you don’t want and click into place the one you want next. I would suggest that as the pieces are made from plastic that you handle them with care so as not to break them. I know you could replace them but why should you, just handle them carefully.

To change from regular sewing to embroidery you need to change part of the undercarriage. Now this may seem a bit cumbersome but I am sure you will get used to it with use.

The Rose appears to be a good machine to start learning how to machine embroider. The Viking may be just too complicated for a beginner plus it is much more expensive. Too expensive to learn on I would think.

The real name of this machine is the Husqvarna Viking embroidery machine and is the product of a very reputable manufacturer. This company have manufactured high quality sewing machines and all their related products in Sweden since 1872.

Throughout history embroidery has been used to embellish clothing and other objects. Think of all the beautiful church vestments and altar cloths, think of all the medieval wall hangings, tapestry´s etc. everything benefits from some sort of decoration.

Of course embroidery through the ages has of necessity been done by hand. Seamstresses have spent hours and hours bent over their work, sometimes this would go on for actual years when it came to bed hangings etc.

Living as we do in the age of advanced technology this sort of hard labour is at an end. You can simply set a machine to do all of this work for you and just sit back and watch designs appear, as if by magic, before your eyes.

The Viking embroidery machine keeps the back of the work nearly as neat as the front.

Designs stored on memory cards are stunning, I particularly like the ones designed to look like stained glass, they really do like that. There are some cutwork designs, they really look superb on a cushion cover. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the Precious Crochet designs, I have seen hand crocheted designs like this but I never would have believed it possible that a sewing/embroidery machine could produce such designs.

If you like personalized towels in your bathroom then the designs you can use on the Viking embroidery machine are awesome, absolutely beautiful. The Husqvarna designs are really very special, like no others I have seen.

Husqvarna Viking is a Swedish company who have, since 1872 in Sweden, been producing quality sewing machines and all their attendant accessories and products.

One of the Husqvarna viking embroidery machine models is the Platinum 955E. This machine is absolutely perfect for enthusiastic sewers who want to move on to something a bit more creative. To let their imagination run riot if you will. They don’t actually have to tax their imagination, there are many many designs already produced from the imagination of others.

This machine comes with d-Cards which will give you 70 beautiful designs suitable for any number of projects, also an optional d Card reader/writer and a 4-d organizer through which you can have access to huge amounts of embroidery designs.

There is professional software that you can buy so that you can create your own unique embroidery designs. There is the ability to create mirror images or to rotate designs end to end, plus many other ways to change the look of a particular design.

You can actually change the size of the design by just touching the stitch size button!

There is no guesswork when you use the Platinum 955E the machine works out the top thread tension for every kind of stitch you use.

There is a wonderful sensor which automatically stops the machine sewing or embroidering when the thread runs out or if it breaks.

I cannot begin to list all the functions that this machine performs. It is mind boggling.

There is another Husqvarna Viking embroidery machine, the Diamond. I just daren’t tell you how expensive this machine is. It is definitely an ‘all singing and all dancing’ kind of machine. People are drooling over it when they have seen a demo, but with a price tag near to $9000 I don’t imagine too many people can just trot down to the store and buy one.

This style of machine, to my mind, is only for people who intend to use it as a professional tool. To produce items to sell. That is certainly the only way that I think I could justify buying one.

I am sure it is embroidery perfection and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone who has that kind of money just waiting for another machine to buy.

The Toyota AD860 12 needle embroidery machine has sewing speeds from 100 to 1000 stitches per minute.

This machine is not a domestic machine, as you will have realized from the 12 needles mentioned above.

It’s huge hoop stitching area is 14″ x 18″ so that is what I call big. I would think that would be big enough for any design you care to choose.

This Toyota embroidery machine has a memory capacity of a huge 100,000 stitches and up to 99 patterns.

It has all the functions you would expect of this type of machine. A thread breakage sensor, a stitch counter, ability to create mirror pattern images and also to rotate the pattern.

It can also remember where it was if there happened to be an interruption to the power whilst it was working.

Toyota build all their machines to embrace all of the safety regulations for the operator.

This machine is belt driven and this means that there is a substantial reduction of the noise level. Plus the belt doesn’t need any maintenance or lubrication.

There is automatic color change with this machine. The operator can utilize automatic thread trimming.

There are other Toyota embroidery machines that only use 1 color but then there are others which use 15 which means that you have 15 different colors always threaded up to avoid wasting time when it comes to color changes in the design.

There is a system which allows you to link several machines together so you can simultaneously produce several items together.

You can depend, as always, on Toyota to give you quality merchandise.

I would like to describe for you here, the Singer CE-100 Futura sewing and embroidery machine.

This is yet another great starter machine for people who want to move on from regular sewing to more creative machine embroidery.

If you were to buy this machine from a dealer rather than the internet you would get the benefit of free lessons, which to my mind are well worth having. Especially if you haven’t any experience with a sewing machine that offers the embroidery function.

The instructions can be a bit daunting, but if you persevere they can be figured out without too much hassle.

Another reason to buy from a dealer is that Singer service centers will NOT honor the warranty if you buy the machine anywhere but from a dealer!

You do need to change colors manually with this machine, but that isn’t such a big deal.

Learning something new like this can be something of a steep learning curve but give yourself time, study the manual [don't just flip over the pages and think you know it even before you have looked] then take the time to practice before you start to use good fabric.

You won’t regret taking the time to learn properly. You wouldn’t want to make a mistake right in the middle of a big project you have, like a quilt for instance. It isn’t intuitive, some things might be, but others you have to learn. Do watch the DVD, if you don’t you may give yourself problems that could well be avoided.

It isn’t possible with this machine to merge designs, you cannot put two together, or parts of different designs. It is a bit of a disappointment, but it is just not possible to do this.

The manual is seen by some as not being very clear and there are things that the instructions do not mention

I did hear of someone who experienced a problem with this machine, the software and hardware just wouldn’t seem to communicate with each other properly. I do believe though that Singer have now overcome these problems.

It is always a good idea, if you have any problems, to look around the Singer website. You will find a lot of information that isn’t even in the instruction manuals.

Another person had problems with continually getting thread breakage messages. It appears that the thread must enter a small tension gauge at the top of the machine when you are threading it, if it is not engaged there then you will keep getting the error messages.

Do visit the Singer website if you have any problems, but on the other hand more people never have a problem than those that do, they are definitely in the minority.

The Singer CE150FS Futura is a sewing and embroidery machine.

You get all the functions that you would expect from a modern electronic age embroidery sewing machine. There are 24 different stitch patterns built in and a couple of different 1-step buttonholes.

There is the useful function of the needle threader, which will be a boon to someone who really doesn’t see so clearly to do this.

There is software that you can use with your home PC to enter into the realm of embroidery designs. You will find that you have 120 built-in designs which include 5 different fonts and an editing capability which allows you to access designs that you can get from the Internet.

There are built in stretch stitches, they are so useful if you are sewing lycra or any kind of stretchy material.

You get two embroidery hoops as standard, but you can always buy more as accessories if you need them. One of these hoops measures 6 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ and there is a smaller one also. The software is Windows compatible, and you get a step-by-step tutorial to teach you how to handle your Singer embroidery sewing machine to the best of its ability.

Another very useful innovation is that part of the base comes away so that you can sew sleeves or trouser legs easily.

At some time Singer had an offer on that if you bought the machine you would be given a CD containing 3,900 stitch designs. This offer unfortunately may have expired by now.

Such a fun thing, you can download family photos and have them turned into an embroidery design. Think of all the applications where you could use this. For Mothers Day a cushion with a family photo embroidered on it. You could frame an embroidered family group. It is such a super idea I am sure you would find so many ways you could use this function.

There are dozens of features with this machine, too many for me to list them all here. This machine comes with all the Singer reputation behind it.

One of Singer’s most innovative designs is the Quantum Futura CE350 computerized sewing and embroidery machine.

This fabulous machine has 99 built in stitches and 120 built-in designs.

This is the first machine that you can use connected directly to your PC, you don’t need any conversion boxes or other tools. Without the need for these extras it makes this machine even cheaper to run.

It has all the extras that you could wish for, three stay bright LED lights so that you can see what you are doing without straining your eyes.

You get a step-by-step tutorial that even a beginner would understand. You can digitize your own designs, you can pick a clip art design and turn it into an embroidery design that the machine will be able to read etc.

There is a huge selection of built in designs, including quilting patterns. All kinds of animals, flowers, holiday type designs and so much more.

You can embroider just the outline of letters and numbers. There are built-in stretch stitches.

Automatic needle threading – so useful, the Singer embroidery machine will work out the correct tension according to the fabric you are using.

The software will show you what the design will look like with a 3-D realistic view, it will look exactly as it will look when embroidered onto fabric.

An amazing function is the one where the machine will trace the design within the embroidery hoop so that you can be sure it is positioned correctly.

You can rotate designs in such small increments as 1 degree at a time so you can work out your optimum position.

If you change the size of the design the software automatically recalculates the stitch density, this is so clever.

You get two hoops with the machine, one is a large 4 1/2″ x 6 3/4″ and the smaller one measures 3 1/8″ x 4 3/4″.

There are additional software packages that would be suitable for this machine.

Many more innovations and even you wouldn’t be needed.

This machine isn’t the most expensive on the market but it is a fine machine and embroiders beautifully.

If you have problems your dealer will help you to solve them. As one reviewer said her problems were caused by the operator [her] and not the machine mostly anyway.

Things she did because she hadn’t properly understood what she was doing wrong the dealer quickly explained and demonstrated so that she was put on the right track very quickly.

It’s quite possible that you were not aware that several of Babylock machines are manufactured by Brother.

One of the main differences is in the designs which come with the machine, of course Brother have the Disney designs whereas Babylock have designs by Nancy Zieman.

One favorite Baby Lock embroidery machine is the Ellegante [BLG] which is exceedingly popular as a regular sewing machine with the embroidery facilities.

It is a very elegant looking machine, hence it’s name. That isn’t all though, it’s what is inside that counts.

As with other complex machines it is best to buy from a dealer, you can save yourself hours if you struggle with any particular function. Ask your dealer and he can quickly set you back on track. No point struggling alone when he can set you straight.

The Nancy Zieman designs seem to appeal well to seamstresses and I am sure even gifted amateurs, they are all exclusive and are built into the machine.

I believe that it is always the best thing to get used to your embroidery machine by using the built in designs to start with. Once you are familiar with them you will be better able to proceed to using imported designs.

On the regular sewing side there are an amazing 15 automatic buttonholes, [I didn't realize there were so many different buttonholes], 413 decorative stitches and 118 ordinary stitches. There are heirloom and quilting stitches and what is more 4 eyelet patterns. These are not usually found on most machines.

There is a slot to take memory cards so that you can have access to the Baby Lock library of memory cards.

You will find a massive 416 embroidery designs built in, 336 of these are exclusive including 32 Nancy Zieman designs plus 1 large script alphabet. You get 1 large floral alphabet, 13 character/alphabet patterns. You can make continuous borders from patterns built in.

I just don’t think I can cover all the features that this machine possesses, it has an amazing array of capabilities.

On top of everything else there is a 25 year warranty, 5 years for the computer circuit, 5 years for electrical and 1 year labor.

I have mentioned only one model and there are many more that would give you hours of enjoyment and satisfaction coming from producing quality items sewn to a professional standard.

Baby Lock do actually give free embroidery classes, I would assume these could be taken with your dealer but they also conduct them online.

Baby Lock have embroidery projects on their site, they teach how to embroider shoes, quilts, clothing and even bags.

I think you would be doing yourself an enormous favor it you took a look at a Baby Lock embroidery machine for all those creative items that you are dying to produce. What is stopping you?

There are six different models in the Pfaff embroidery machine range.

One of these six is the Pfaff Creative 2144, recently replaced by the Pfaff 2170. This has one function which I haven’t seen on any other machine so far, a 1/2 speed slow sew for people you are just learning or even young people wanting to have a go.

The ability to constantly add designs to your machine’s memory means that you will never be out of date. All your designs will constantly be up to date.

You get a large multi-color computer display so that you can see easily which stitch you want to use, and if you are in need of help all you need to do is press the ‘info’ icon on the screen and you will get the help you need.

Another innovation which I think is very useful is the ability to view the design in different colorways. This can help you to choose which colors you think would suit the design best. You can always sew any design in one single color if you prefer.

When you buy this machine you get so many extras, one of which I think is great tnat that is an embroidery pack. You get fabric, stablizer and thread just to get you started if you don’t already have embroidery supplies.

There is Pfaff software which lets you develop your own designs.

Another machine is the Pfaff Creative 4.0 and this has so much that comes as standard, it is mind blowing.

So many of its 9mm stitches are new, in fact there are 200 new stitches never before seen and it doesn’t stop there. You can alter any or all of these stitches, changing the length etc. to make a new stitch.

You will get so much with the machine, 4D organizer software and USB memory stick, at no extra cost. The screen is high definition so you will see everything as it will be when finished.

There is a huge super-size embroidery area up to 260mm x 200mm to the right of the needle to accommodate large amounts of fabric when you have a big project. A quilt, a duvet cover, curtains etc. even perhaps an evening dress.

Although this is reasonably expensive, anywhere from 3595.00 pounds sterling, offers perhaps at 2995.00 sterling. you will get what you pay for. This is German technology at its best.
